Ray-Ban is an American brand of designer and luxurious sunglasses established in 1937 by Bausch & Lomb. Ray-Bans were first produced in 1936. There is a story behind birth of Ray Ban sunglasses. Some years prior to 1936, Lieutenant John A. Macready (an American test pilot) came back from a balloon flight, complained that the sun had permanently injured his eyes, and contacted Bausch & Lomb asking them to make sunglasses that would offer protection and also look sophisticated. This is how Ray Ban was introduced to the world. The prototype, known as Anti-Glare, had a frame weighing 150 grams. They were made of gold-plated metal with green lenses made of mineral glass to filter out infrared and ultraviolet rays.
